Sheher Uper શહેર

Sheher Uper શહેર is a boutique Airbnb on the 25th floor of a tower in Ahmedabad, planned for eight to ten guests. Its interiors look to the pols and houses of the old city, carrying that character up from the ground.

01Project Brief

The Brief

Vrajesh Raval wanted a heritage-inspired Airbnb that felt like a home away from home. Ahmedabad is India's first heritage city, and the idea was to bring that sense of heritage into a flat on the 25th floor, well above the street.

The Objective

The client asked for open, breathing space rather than a heavily furnished interior, with heavy pieces kept to a minimum. Each room was to follow its own theme.

02Transformation

A sequence of interventions reshaped the existing shell into the finished space. Compare each before and after.

The Living Room

Structural shell retained; lime plaster, terrazzo and carved stone introduced.

03Design Language

The design looks to Ahmedabad's old-city pols and houses, working from a simple idea: roots on the ground while you live in the sky. The rooms are treated separately, one following a cane and rattan direction, another a modern-retro one. Reflect Studios ran the project from design through execution over eight months, with the civil work handled by the client.

01Materiality
The walls carry CNC-carved artwork, including sun-temple motifs cut and fabricated for the project. Alongside these sit the client's own antique furniture, close to two hundred years old.
02Craft & Details
The wall murals are by Prakash Garg.
03Light & Ambience
Lighting is movable rather than built in.
04Space Planning
The existing layout was kept as it was. Rather than move walls, the plan relies on restraint, holding the rooms open and avoiding heavy furniture.

Furniture & Finishes

The furniture centres on antique pieces brought from the client's native home, close to two hundred years old, repaired where needed and used alongside custom-made pieces.

Challenges & Context

The flat came newly built and possession-ready, with no structural constraints. The task was to give a large, high-rise space a heritage character while keeping it open and uncluttered.
